The Natural Condition is Perfection

No condition of man, however great it may be, is natural to him. Only the
condition of unlimited Consciousness, – the Perfection of the Divine is alone
natural and normal to him. Only there he can find peace and power and strength
and immortal life. Any condition of greatness in the world, or man's rulership
over the whole cosmos – tomorrow man can be the emperor of all the planets, and
he may rule the planets for ten million years, even that state is not normal to
man. It is a changing state, it is a dualistic state. It is a condition of
sorrow in one way or the other, at one time or the other. And whatever pleasures
are had by that condition are also not worth mentioning. Only the Consciousness,
– the Oneness with the Consciousness of God is alone normal and natural for man.
Until man reaches and arrives at this state, he is weak, unwise, misguided, and
imprisoned, and really unhappy deep down in his inner being.
So, get at this natural condition of Oneness with the Divine. With every loud
repetition of the Mantra, shake off your whole ego into the fire of the Divine
Consciousness: offer body, mind and soul and heart to the Divine. With every
loud repetition of the Mantra, shake off your individuality, and surrender
yourself to the divine Peace, Joy, Perfection, Light, Love, completely.
Everything that is not the infinite divine Love, Light, Peace, Perfection, is
perishable, false, bad – reject it. With every loud repetition of the Mantra
burn it in the fire of the divine Love and Consciousness. Subsist as Love of
God, exist as the Grace of God, with great intelligence, that comes from love of
God, with unbreakable nerves and peace of mind that come from contact with God,
with peace and grace which emerge from contact with God, with great wisdom and
inner strength, unshakeable, unbreakable strength which comes from contact with
God.
God the Mother of Mothers

God is now here. As a child pulls the
hand of the mother who is close by, as the child pulls the clothes of the
mother, so you can pull the clothes of God and the hand of God.
The mother is at least a little away
from the child, the mother is at least something other than the child, the
mother is outside the child; the mother may run away tomorrow, or the mother may
die tomorrow or the mother may be interested in another husband and go with the
other husband, leaving this child to the grandmother's care – but God is not
only close like the mother, but also inside you, around you, and God can never
leave you, never can go away from you, never can be separated from you.
So, He is inside you, outside you. You
can pull His hand, pull His clothes. He is more real than the physical mother.
And He can never give you to somebody else, and He can never die. He can never
desert you under any condition at any time in any circumstance.
Your mother if she is in the next room,
cannot hear you, but God is always hearing you, wherever you may be. Your mother
cannot hear the thoughts that are taking place in you, the feelings that are
arising in you. Your mother can hear only your physical voice, but God is
hearing not only your speech but also what is being spoken in your heart, in
your soul, in your mind.
Therefore pull the hand of God, pull the
clothes of God in this meditation. Recognize the greatness of God, the wonder of
God.
Now we shall pull the Hand of God.
God is all-merciful, all-loving. Your
mother is not all-loving. The mother does not love the child when it does not
obey her. The mother does not love the child when she has another child more
beautiful than this child. There are thousands of families in the world where
the parents every day make distinctions between one child and another. If the
mother loves the youngest child most, the father loves the eldest child most.
The mother's love is partial, selfish, limited, not constant, comes to an end.
If the son does not marry the girl whom she selects, or if he marries another
girl she doesn't like, then she rejects the son from the house. Her love is
exposed to constant breakage. It is partial, limited, selfish, and cannot
operate at any time in any condition, whereas the love of God is unconditioned,
absolute, everlasting, unchanging.
He loves you absolutely,
unconditionally. First of all you are His creation.
So, His love alone is constant, unchanging, impartial, deep and perfect; and
all-powerful, all-protecting, all-wonderful. If you die, He can resurrect you.
If you are in an impossible danger, He can save you. However much your mother
may love you, if you die she cannot resurrect you, or if you are caught up in a
dangerous situation she cannot save you, she has no power, she is foolish, weak,
helpless herself. So, a child that depends purely on the mother's love is
deceiving itself. A child that is conscious of God will be always protected,
will be always saved, will be always resurrected, has always the security of a
persisting, unconditioned love.
Now, pull the hand of this God!
God is All, There is no Inside or Outside

God is intensely present within and without. He is everywhere. He is everything,
in everything, as everything, – and as Himself also.
To a drop within the heart of the ocean, where is the ocean not? In the drop
there is the ocean, all around the drop is the ocean, above and below the drop
is the ocean. It is inside that drop, outside that drop. It is also as that
drop. It is also as the ocean. Even so, God is above, within, around, below
every object, every being, everything.
Even as it is meaningless to say that the ocean is in the drop and outside the
drop, within the drop and without the drop, it is meaningless to say that God is
within and without because He alone is, everywhere and as everything. “Within
and without” is only an idea, the Truth is: HE ALONE IS.
There is no “inside and outside” for the ocean. There is no inside and outside
for that drop in the heart of the ocean. The ocean alone is. No matter there may
be billions of drops in the heart of the ocean. And if that drop is thinking it
is the drop, separate from the ocean, it is purely a functional affair, not an
actuality.
When the drop thus thinks – one does not know whether it is the ocean thinking
itself to be that drop within its own heart, or it is the drop thinking itself
to be the ocean, the drop itself thinking itself to be a drop, and in the ocean,
and comparing itself to the ocean, and distinguishing itself from the ocean,
while in actuality there can be no such distinctions.
That drop, in truth, in the heart of the ocean, has no shape, no form. There is
no possibility of that drop to be as that drop in the heart of the ocean. Yet if
there is a drop, the experience of a drop, it is purely functional.
Even so, the individual experience is purely functional, there cannot be
anything like a limited being in the unlimited Being that God is. So, the
limited individual experience is purely a functional experience. In truth God
alone is. Not only as He is in Himself, but as everything and everyone, and as
above everything, below everything, around everything.
To the apple there is something called without and within, but to the billions
of tiniest, invisible edible particles within the apple, there is no such thing
as within and without; there is no such thing as themselves and the apple as
distinct and separate. The apple subsists as those billions of invisible edible
particles. It is more than all these, it is in them, it is around them, it is as
them. Even so the universe: the whole universe is a small, invisible particle in
the heart of the Divine.
So, God alone is.
And there is also no such thing as externalization and internalization of this
Reality. The idea that there is something external, something is externalized,
or something internalized, is purely mental, imaginary, illusory, functional.
You open your eyes and see the outer world, and you say your consciousness is
externalized. You close your eyes, concentrate on the consciousness itself, and
then without thoughts and feelings contemplate on the consciousness, and you
think consciousness is internalized, interiorized. But there is no such thing as
interiorization and externalization. There is no such thing for that drop in the
heart of the ocean as externalization or internalization. There is only the
infinite Consciousness. There is no internalization or externalization. The
internalization and the externalization are purely functional, imaginary.
You dream, and the dream opens for you another world. And all the dream is
taking place within your consciousness. Yet you find yourself in the streets of
Basel. What is externalization here, or what is internalization here? Everything
is taking place in your own head.
So, externalization or internalization is purely an idea. When that dream is
over, you open your eyes again, and there is another world of experience. Which
is internalization, which is externalization – is the dream-world the
externalization, or is the external world that we experience the external world?
So, internalization and externalization of consciousness is purely a functional
affair, an imagination, an illusion within an illusion. There is no
internalization and externalization, there is only an infinite Consciousness.
Meditation

Now contact this infinite Consciousness in meditation. Discover within and
without nothing but the same Divinity.
In meditation closing the eyes is necessary. Meditation and the closing of the
eyes are necessary in order to see this Reality. Mantra-repetition is necessary
in order to evoke the divine Presence into view, and control and transform the
mind into the Divine.
In a dark night upon the street you have lost a tiny object, what do you do? You
don't stand up and search, you sit down in the place where it has fallen, and
you stare with your eyes in order to find where the object is. You stare and
gaze at the thing, you strain for light to see it. Even so in order to see the
Reality which is invisible to the physical eye, one has to sit and gaze, stare
at the Reality.
So, every special experience involves fulfillment of special conditions.
Now use this condition for intensive contact with the Divine.
Keep Up the Practices

A true aspirant will always cling to this Essence which is everything. A true
aspirant clings to this infinite Power, infinite Knowledge, infinite Joy,
infinite Beauty, infinite Peace. He clings to nothing external, nothing
physical, nothing earthly, to no person, to no condition, to no
circumstance,
not even to his body, not even to his mind, to nothing within him or without
him, nothing of him, – but only to the Divine. That is wisdom, that is a
wonderful business.
In Mantra-repetition do not wait for the devotion to come, do not wait for great
love and faith to arise, go on repeating, automatically the devotion and faith
will arise. Even on the days when you feel dry, do not leave off the
Mantra-repetition, go on repeating it, automatically the Mantra-repetition
itself will induce in you the rise of devotion.
So, wisdom would demand a continuous repetition of the Mantra on all days, at
all times.
You cannot wait for the rains to come for sowing your seeds. Go on sowing your
seeds, the rains will come.
You cannot wait for the water in the lakes to become warm, that way you can
never bathe. Just plunge yourself in the waters of the lake. The moment you take
the first plunge, the next plunge will be warm, the third will be more warm.
Even so, whether or not there is devotion, or faith, or immediate sense of the
Divine, go on repeating the Mantras, concentrating on the Divine to the extent
possible, afterwards you will find devotion arising.
You cannot expect to be at the highest stage of spiritual development and
devotion, begin where you are and all else that is necessary will come, provided
you are keeping it up what you have begun.
And it does not matter even if your repetition is like mere calling or
'barking', without any essence behind, without any ensouling light and
experience and love in it – all these will come later on. Your barking has its
own usefulness: though the barking dogs never bite, they are wonderful in
keeping the thieves off, or at least in awakening the master of the house to
watch and see what's the matter. The barking has a very significant role to play
in keeping the thieves off, though barking dogs never bite. Even so, even your
calling on the God though there is no essence of love and faith and devotion and
purity behind, is of immense value.
So begin with what you have and afterwards all other essentials will be added
unto you.
The Divinity

Think intensively of the Divinity which is the music of music, the peace of
peace, the happiness of happiness.
The hand of this all-loving, all-wonderful, all-seeing Divinity is counting
every repetition of your Mantra. And it is planning for your future welfare,
your happiness, progress, your development. It is absolutely merciful.
It is the absolute Light, absolute Beauty. There is no point of space where it
is not.
Now, sink your whole being into this marvellous music of musics, beauty of
beauties, happiness of happiness.
See God in the Face of Every Person You Meet
Constantly see the Divine everywhere, in all things, at all times.
Somebody stands by you, or if you see someone, – at once in that person's face
see the Divine, and look upon the feet of that person as the feet of God.
Then, as all through the day you have opportunities to see so many people,
almost at the turn of every minute, you will be so many times in contact with
God.
If Mr. Wagner loves the Divine Mother, he should see in the person who is by
him, the Divine Mother. In the face of that person he must see the face of the
Divine Mother. That face of that person must disappear, and in the place of
that, the Divine Mother's face should appear for him. And the feet of that
person should disappear and the feet of the Divine Mother should appear there,
before him.
If this discipline is kept up, all through the day you will be in
God-Consciousness, because all through the day there is always someone or the
other, some people or the other, by you, around you. This discipline is most
valuable in order to be perpetually in God-consciousness.
